In short
- Shard has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and nothing records how you play.
- Your games, settings and artwork stay on your phone (and in your own phone backup, if it's on). We never receive them.
- If you buy Shard Premium, a record of the purchase goes to the service that verifies purchases for us, so Premium can unlock and be restored later.
Who we are
Pigment Lab LLC is an independent game studio in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. We make Shard for Android and iPhone and run pigmentlab.app. This policy covers both. Questions about it go to support [at] pigmentlab.app.
What stays on your phone
Shard keeps everything you make and choose on your device:
- your progress, points and level, and the game in progress
- your settings, such as theme, sound and color symbols
- your Gallery of finished pieces and their thumbnails
- images you export to share
None of this is sent to us or anyone else. If your phone's backup is on (Google backup on Android, iCloud or a computer backup on iPhone), it can include this data in your own account and restore it when you reinstall Shard. We can't see it. When you share a piece, your phone's share sheet sends the image straight to the app you pick.
What leaves your phone
Only what Premium purchases need.

Card numbers and other payment details go only to Google or Apple. We never see them. Like any online service, the purchase service sees your IP address when Shard connects.
Purchases
Shard Premium is a one-time purchase through Google Play or the App Store. The purchase service handles these records only on our behalf. It doesn't collect your location, and we don't give it your name, your email or any advertising ID. Purchase records are used to provide Premium and for our sales and tax records, never for advertising or tracking you across apps. Google and Apple handle your payment under their own policies: Google and Apple.
What we don't do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising, and no advertising ID. On Android, Shard blocks access to it.
- No analytics of how you play, no crash reporting and no tracking tools.
- No access to your location, contacts, camera or microphone, and Shard can't see your photos. If you save a piece to your photo library, your phone may ask you to let Shard add it. That permission only lets Shard add images, never view them.
- We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
The website
pigmentlab.app uses no cookies, analytics or advertising, and loads nothing from other companies. Our web host processes standard request details, such as your IP address, to deliver the pages.
Keeping and deleting data
- On your phone: delete pieces in the Gallery, or delete the app to remove everything from the phone. A phone backup may keep a copy until it's replaced or you delete it in your Google or iCloud settings.
- Purchase records: kept while they're needed to provide and restore Premium, and for our tax and accounting records. Google and Apple keep their own records of your purchase.
- Emails: if you write to us, we use your address and message only to reply, keep the conversation as long as we need it to help you, and delete it on request.
To have your Shard purchase record deleted, email support [at] pigmentlab.app with the order number from your Google Play or Apple receipt (Google Play order numbers start with GPA.). We'll delete it within 30 days and confirm. This doesn't cancel or refund your purchase. If you tap Restore Purchases later, the store sends the purchase again and a new record is created.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. You can also object to how it's used, or complain to your local data protection authority. Email us and we'll answer within 30 days. We use purchase records to provide the Premium unlock you bought, and emails to answer you.
Children
Shard isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Where data is processed
Pigment Lab is based in the United States, and purchase records are processed there. If you live elsewhere, your information may be transferred to the United States.
Security
Everything that leaves your phone travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. If a change affects what data leaves your phone, we'll say so at the top of the page.
